PTH is Hiring! Experienced Full-Time Organizer Wanted!

Picture the homeless seeks a full-time Lead Organizer who will supervise campaign organizers and other program staff, provide leadership around integrating new organizing practice with existing methodologies, create more effective systems for base-building and member retention in collaboration with our organizing team, coordinate leadership development – all with an eye towards building power for homeless people and a sustainable organization. The Lead Organizer’s responsibilities will include:

Leadership and Skills Development

  • Supervise and provide skills training for organizing and program staff
  • Coordinate with our Leadership Development Coordinator for political education and community organizer skills training for PTH’s membership
  • Identify new tools for our work and develop a workplan to integrate those into our existing resources (ex: new database)

Campaign Coordination

Coordinate and support current organizing campaigns and program work: Housing Not Warehousing and Civil Rights and new campaigns as they emerge.

Coordinate Strategy

  • Oversee leadership and staff development in organizing tactics strategic to each campaign
  • Guide organizing campaigns, including strategic planning and evaluation
  • Provide strategic political guidance to organizing campaigns and link them to broader policy agendas though coalition work, or broader based campaign work
  • Oversee strategic ally mapping for each campaign and training of staff and leaders around engaging with multiple sectors

Requirements

  • Minimum of three years experience as a lead organizer
  • Strong supervision skills and a minimum of three years’ experience supervising others
  • Strong training and mentorship skills, and a commitment to skill-sharing and coaching in the context of grassroots organizations
  • Strong teamwork abilities for close collaboration with other staff and member committees
  • Superb research, analytical, writing, oral communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Dedication and ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends
  • Proficiency in Windows applications and other information technologies
  • Demonstrated commitment to grassroots organizing and building power of poor and working people
  • Fluency in Spanish is preferred
