Harlem Vacant Property Walking Tour and Press Conference

Harlem, NY. - Homeless and formerly homeless people will lead the Harlem community on a vacant property walking tour, highlighting how these properties symbolize the issues of vacancy across the city.
“In today’s economic recession, the City needs to prioritize the needs of the people and not spend over a billion dollars last year on a broken shelter system,” said Kendall Jackman, a member of Picture the Homeless. “The fact that city agencies keep properties vacant while tens of thousands of people deal with horrid conditions in a financially draining shelter system only contributes to the problem.”
The tour will end in a town hall meeting where community members will discuss the problems and solutions to vacancy.
When: Friday, December 14th at 1:30pm
Where: 116th Street & Lexington Avenue
Town Hall Meeting at CB#11 - 1664 Park Ave (bw 117 & 118 St) - 3pm.
