Community Land Trusts
On February 28, 2012 PTH members Kendall Jackman, Alease Lowe and Maria T. Walles attended a joint meeting of the NYC Council's Housing & Buildings and Transportation Committees in the hopes of presenting testimony about Intro 48 - proposed legislation that would empower the city to conduct an annual count of vacant buildings and lots in the five boroughs. As soon as she identified herself and began reading her statement, Jackman was interrupted by Housing Committee Chair Erik Martin Dilan who insisted that testimony unrelated to the agenda would not be permitted. The Councilman's contrived conundrum then provided him an excuse to have Jackman, Lowe and Walles escorted from the speakers table - essentially preventing them from talking about housing at a Housing Committee meeting.
