Like countless others across NYC, the City-owned lot at 1390 Stebbins Avenue in the Bronx has been sitting vacant since the 1980s.
“Our community needs so much,” said PTH member Andres Perez. “Gardens, parks, libraries, low-income housing – but the city and private landlords are keeping property vacant. We’re going to ask our neighbors what THEY want to see.”
According to one neighborhood resident we spoke with, “Right now, this lot belongs to the raccoons. But it should belong to us.”
Come join Picture the Homeless and Banana Kelly in a community visioning session to DEMAND the Mayor and the City Council hold vacant property owners accountable, fight speculation, and PASS THE HOUSING NOT WAREHOUSING ACT!
WHEN: Thursday, May 4th @ 12PM.
WHERE: 1390 Stebbins Avenue (vacant lot); 2/5 train to Freeman Street.
WHAT: Rally and community visioning session!
“This community has vision,” said PTH member Marcus Moore. “Our people know what we need. We must continue to spotlight vacant property that the city and private landlords are warehousing. It’s a new day. Time’s up. No more warehousing.”
